This wasn't a bad movie but it wasn't Gladiator either. This movie has flaws to be sure but a lot of that is because of expectations and the fact that they were dealing with a hugely impossibly large story. The director sacrificed the backstory on the characters and that hurt the whole movie. He also skimped on the siege of Troy shortening it to a a month or more instead of 10 years. All of this is understandable. Its highly unlikely the seige lasted 10 years to begin with just as it is unlikely there were 1,000 ships and 100,000 Greeks there. Still, it was too quick on the back story and you lost alot of what made the battle great. That being said the one thing that really stood out was Eric Bana. This guy is on the rise and has potential to be a great great actor. His turn as Hector was just outstanding. Orlando Bloom did a solid job with Paris but they really should have done more with him. Pitt did a good job but was underutilized by the director. Its almost as if the director wanted to make Achilles the center of the story without making him the center and that is probably his biggest mistake. Still it was not a bad movie just not a great one either.
Rating: Weak Light Green. It gets bumped to light green just because of the jaw dropping scenery and battle scenes.
