I think this was the first Jean Claude Van Damme movie I ever saw and it's still one of his best, a good story line, not overwhelmed by the fights and one thing I noticed upon re-watching it last night is how subtle the music is, soft, not overpowering. I've noticed too many movies where the music just blares out over the action or thunders up in quieter moments. The best music is that which isn't noticed, it simply enhances the movie without the viewer realizing it. I only noticed the softness in this movie because I was expecting it to be loud and obnoxious, instead I was pleasantly surprised. Good love scene too, it's a bit weepy in places and the kids are predictably cute but there's some nice comedic touches in places, particularly when the boy thinks it's ET stealing into their house at night!
On a side note, it took me looking it up in IMDb to realize the bad guy was the nice Captain Stottlemeyer in Monk! I recognized his voice and couldn't figure out where I knew it from, he's much better looking now with a few more years on him.
