I'd heard about this movie after it first came out but didn't watch it until recently. The reviews back then were excellent and well-deserved, this is a very good movie. Terence Stamp is excellent in the part, even Lesley Ann Warren is good and Luiz Guzman stands out, equaling Stamp's performance. It's a film noir, no happy endings here, it tells a story, both present and past and reminds me of a book I read recently, In a True Light by John Harvey. This movie and the book deal with ex-con fathers and daughters and the consequences of their relationships. The movie is told in flashbacks, of Stamp's character on a plane, remembering the past, both recent and distant. There's a depth in both movie and book that's not often seen in movies (or books) today, characters well explored and fleshed out, even secondary ones and a good sense of time and place built around them. Watch this movie, and read the book too.
