Ok music stars to actors is always a flawed idea. Most of the time it's scripts they choose from Rick Springfield to Mariah Carey to Brittney Spears but the biggest obstacle you have to overcome is to stop seeing them as whatever superstar they are and see the character they are trying to play. Enimem does that to perfection. Yes he is still a rough actor with some flaws but he was successful in making you not see him but see Jimmy "Rabbit" Smith. Not only that, this movie has a very realistic and great plot. It didn't follow form, it didn't end with him riding off in the sunset with the girl and a big contract, and most of all not everything was happy. Yes he trimuphed in the end but the way he did shows a young man coming into his own on his terms and not anyone else's. It also showed him coming back from a devastating defeat. Overall, this movie was just simply one of the best I have seen in a long time and it should (although probably won't) get some Oscar nominations. Kim Basinger was the best actor in the movie hands down and continues to just totally frustrate me to no end. This is an actor with obvious talents that to date have only shown up in two movies. Lastly, I think it would be great if Enimem got a nomination for best actor just for seeing the Christian Coalition have a seizure.
Rating: 5 out of 5 stars, give this one a bright bright green.

I want to preface this by saying that I am no fan of hip hop by any means. I do have respect for it but for the most part, it is out of my universe of understanding. Recently though after hearing all this uproar about Eminem, I decided that I would actually sit down and listen to some of his music. As much as I dislike hip hop, I was absolutely blown away by his writing and at times, his sense of humor. Without Me was just down right funny but also had a very stinging line in it, saying that he was the first white man to do black music so successfully since Elvis (a very true line at that) but the songs that really blew me away was his new one, Cleaning Out My Closet and Stan. The depth and the truth and the ability to cross taboo lines earns him a huge amount of respect from me. This guy has got some of the best talent of anybody there is. Now comes his movie which his director has jokingly dubbed the Eminem movie. It is not based on his life, it has some elements of his life in it. The fact that he was able to reel in serious talent in Brittney Murphy and Kim Basinger says a lot about this man and the early buzz has been almost Oscar caliber. I think this movie will really be excellent and continue to establish him as a force in the entertainment industry. The critics, such as Bill O'Riley, who have labeled him everything from homophobic to a bad father really need to sit down and actually listen to his music for once.
